Nasrudin had close connection with Antasari: Witness

A witness has confirmed that former Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) leader Antasari Azhar had a “close” connection with victim Nasruddin Zulkarnaen, who was murdered earlier this year.
Sri Martuti, Nasruddin’s first wife, testified during Tuesday’s hearing at the South Jakarta District Court that her husband had told her in March that he had secured a Rp 1.5 billion (US$156,000) commission from a business project he had handled with Antasari.
“He said he would give me Rp 500 million,” she said.
She said she would have used the money to finance the education of her only son, who will enter college next year.
Nasruddin, Sri said, also told her that Antasari would “help” him secure a director position in the state company PT Rajawali Nusantara Indonesia (RNI), even though he failed to attain the position.
Antasari is on trial for allegedly plotting the murder of Nasruddin, a director of the pharmaceutical company PT Putra Rajawali Banjaran, one of RNI’s 15 subsidiaries.
Nasruddin was killed in a drive-by shooting in Tangerang in March.
Sri Martuti was among four witnesses presented by the prosecutors in Tuesday’s six-hour-long hearing.
The other three witnesses were Irawati Arienda, Nasruddin’s second wife, Suparmin, Nasruddin’s driver, and Rusli, a police officer who first witnessed the crime scene.
The prosecutors, however, failed to present the most awaited key witness, Rhani Juliani, saying that her lawyer had informed them that their client could not attend court due to health reasons.
The judges reprimanded the prosecutors for their “disorganized” work, instructingthem to bring Rhani to the next court session no matter what. “The prosecutors must bring the key witness even if they have to force her,” presiding judge Herri Swantoro said before closing the session.
